Coaching High School Soccer: How To Achieve Self-Control
When it comes to Coaching high school soccer, we must accept the fact that self-control is a choice just like confidence that players must make. In soccer coaching, it’s the relation between emotions and thoughts that concludes the self control strategies. We all know that our state of mind influences our emotions, which in turn strengthens our performance.
With a view to help the players in learning the skill and discipline of self-control, there is a 12 step strategy which I shall discuss with you. Still, it is better that players take up these steps only when they feel that it is going to be of value to them.
What’s more, the players should also be prepared to take full responsibility for the actions they take. The strategy has been given below in 12 steps for your reference.
1. Awareness: When coaching youth soccer, help players identify their weak points. Allow them to investigate when, where and how loss of control happened on field in their past.
2. Understanding: Allow the players to make out the reason that affected their thinking in such a way that they lost their emotional stability.
3. Differences: Give them time to recollect situations when they did lose control and when they did not. And then they should determine the difference in their emotions, attitudes, and behavior.
4. Problem: When it comes to coaching high school soccer, try to point out the real problem. For example: The player may be feeling guilty that he let the entire team down due to his actions.
5. Belief: Help the players raise their own expectations including self-control as one of the character. Give confidence to players to change themselves.
6. Reinforcement: Reinforcement encourages a change in behavior. To make the improved skills of players as their permanent skills, you, being a coach, must reward them.
7. Goals: Start with multiple smaller goals, so that you can take your players along the path to changes. Assist the players in identifying the relationship between opinions, outlook, and actions.
8. Techniques: Build a series of behavioral techniques for maintaining confidence. For example: When a particular situation comes up, this is the path that the players must go by.
9. Plan: In football coaching, teach the players to pursue their goals in a planned and systematic way.
10. Progress: Teach them how to be patent. Let them understand the principle of gradual improvement including the ups and downs.
11. Setbacks: Teach the players on how to live with the setbacks that are unavoidable. So, the best way is learn from them and become even stronger.
12. Remembrance: Finally another important point is making the players understand the importance of the reason for they are trying to change. They should always bear in mind why they’re doing this. What would the change mean to them for their future?
We all now that a soccer player who can act speedily with comfort is in a perfect performance state. It signifies the ability to use energy without any fear.
Make no mistake about it. You must include relaxation techniques in coaching high school soccer and train the players on how to control the thought process so that they can keep themselves stress-free.
