Santa Cruz District

The Santa Cruz quarter is one of the oldest in the city and is to be found in the old heart of Seville. Its history and attractiveness make it one of the most representative places here.

The houses and apartamentos sevilla are very close to each other which means that there are an endless number of narrow streets which give visitors break from Seville’s summer sun.

Plainness is the main feature of this district’s backdrop and is the amalgamation of the colourful houses with their decorated balconies where flowers hang out of like bouganvilles which makes this a enjoyable place to get lost for a few hours.

There are some special sites within the quarter, such as: ‘El convento de las Teresas’ and ‘el Hospicio de Venerables Sacerdotes’, although I’m in no doubt the main appeal is being able to walk without a care in the world along its colourful streets.

The district’s entwined streets end up in squares where you can see historical monuments, terraces, bars and more. Here is a record of the squares I visited in the district and what I found in them.

Plaza de los Venerables: A square full of tavernas and terraces where you can have a rest and calm down a bit while you have a beer and try out some of Seville’s famous tapas.

Plaza de Santa Cruz: This square has a locksmith’s cross which dates back to the 17th century which is a very noticeable and very Andalucían monument which is well worth a visit.

Plaza de las Cruces: This is a small square where you can find three columns whose top parts are crosses. It’s not as spectacular as the Plaza de Santa Cruz; nevertheless, it is a place which lends itself to taking photos.

Plaza de Dona Elvira: A square full of orange trees and decorated by the very typical tiles; it is also extremely colourful with a central fountain where you can calm down for a but if you feel like it.

The district has an endless list of interesting spots and each one of these has things to admire within them, and after visiting it for the first time, I wonder if I’ll get to discover all its secrets one day.
