History of Scuba Diving - Brief Knowledge to Know

What is the history of scuba diving that you should know? The history of scuba diving tells that scuba diving isn’t a modern sport. Since about 4500BC, our ancestors have practiced scuba diving. Moreover, before the modern scuba diving equipments were found, people living in the coastal communities in Greece, China, and Mesopotamia were already diving into the lowest point of the ocean.

Women and men from those parts of the world put into practice what we call “breath-hold” techniques to stay underwater for some minutes. The notes in the history of scuba diving inform us that some of those people can hold their breath longer than five minutes!

It is true, some of those explanations maybe embroidered at some points but people do stay underwater without scuba diving tools even today. So, there is a big chance that some divers in the past may have actually stayed underwater for several minutes without drowning. It actually proves that people do not just dive for fun at that time.

Food shortages often lead people to search the bottom of the sea for food. So, diving was actually a way of endurance for those people. When the survival of their families is at stake, lots of people would risk everything including their lives just to make sure that their families stay alive. The history of scuba diving informs us a great of stories about brave women and men who go through such length as risking their lives to save others.

Diving In Times of War

According to the history of scuba diving, the art of diving water was applied as part of combating tactics by the Greeks. Divers were sent out to sea to sabotage the ships of the enemies during the Trojan War. These divers go under the enemy ships and then puncture holes in the hull of the ship. Furthermore, they also cut the anchor ropes to destabilize the enemy ship during battle.

Apart from attacking and destabilizing enemy ships, the Trojans also make use of divers to design underwater defenses to protect their ports from the enemies. Based on accounts in the scuba diving history, the Trojans were also to destroy most of their enemy’s ships through their underwater defenses.

According to the history of scuba diving, you should know that building and repairing those underwater defenses unfortunately will be very expensive. Throughout building underwater barriers, many divers were injured and some of them drowned. Constructing underwater structures is lots of hard work that even the strongest of divers often give up to the muscle cramps and finally drown to death.

The Fundamental Advantageous Direction of Snorkelling You Should Know

Snorkelling term is dealing with everything regarding water activity, where people do a snorkel by wearing a mask and some fins as the tools in enjoying the ocean view. An individual can do two things simultaneously, taking a breath and observing the ocean under him by wearing a face mask. In this matter, snorkelling is educational and also exciting.

Finding the Fit Gear

Before snorkelling, make sure that the gear is truly proper for you, so you will be secure in heading the water. That is the preliminary prerequisite. The too tight gear will disturb your pleasure and the too loose will enable the water entering your mask. Then, you need to do the same thing to fins to ensure that your effort to drive yourself in snorkelling will not be wasted. Your snorkel should suitable with your face mask. The good fixing snorkel will prevent the water go into it when you float in the surface.

Up and Down

Snorkelling can be done not only on water surface. You can do more if you dive underwater for a relatively short time to watch things closely. Snorkel to a certain depth, in other case, will entail you to take the breath of air through the snorkel. Then you should direct your head downwards to where you desire to descend.

Further about snorkelling, you need to bear in mind this essential advice. The water will enter the snorkel, so bear in mind that you shouldn’t breathe in through it. Snorkelling upwards can be as simply as tilting your head upwards to the surface. When you arrive at the surface, blow the air through your snorkel to clear the accumulated water out of it. Therefore, snorkelling can be continued when there is no more water in the snorkel.

Doing inappropriate movements under water will make you run out of air, as it can use up a lot of supply of air. It will be better to make the slow or calm movements in snorkelling underwater. So, it will not cause the marine creature you wish to see become afraid. Relaxed movements also ensure that you glide calmly through the water surface. You will be able to see more things compared to a faster speed.

Snorkelling Risks

Snorkelling can very risky if you do not pay attention to the safety. Be careful when you do manoeuvre around the coral, as you can be injured by its sharp edge. The marine creature even will consider as a threat, so finally they will hit you. Further about snorkelling, it will be necessary for you to keep the distance from some fishes whose teeth can even cut coral. Therefore, they also have ability to cut your body.

Does that answer your question? For further explanation about snorkelling you can find the complete guide here!

Suggestions and Basics You Should Consider When You Begin Kayaking

Don’t you want to attempt kayaking? Many people like this watersport as they mention kayaking as a sport of the season. All members of the family can join this sport as kayaking is really enjoyable and interesting.

There are various kinds of kayaks when we talk about kayaking nowadays, including a canoe kayak. Even though it is really similar to the canoe, the canoe kayak definitely has its main differences. Here are three major differences between a canoe and a kayak.

The main differentiation on kayaking and canoeing is: kayak is a knocked down boat, while a canoe isn’t. There is also the truth that when using the boat, a kayaker sits flat with his legs extended under the deck and his upper body coming from a central hole in the deck, while a canoer will kneel in the boat.

The third major differentiation between a kayak and a canoe is the paddle. A canoe applies a shorter paddle with a blade on only one end while the kayak applies a longer paddle with blades at both ends of the rod. When we talk about kayaking, a canoe kayak can be said as the best features of boats and mixing them into a single result.

Equipment

There are some equipments that you will definitely need when you are doing kayaking. The first one and the most important piece of equipment you are going to need for kayaking is the kayak. You will need to opt a kayak that is large enough for all members to fit into, but not too large that you are not going to be able to control it.

Paddles are also another necessity in Kayaking to move the kayak. Before you head out on a kayaking adventure you are going to need to observe how to use these paddles, and they can definitely be a little tricky to start with.

It is okay to wear your regular clothes while you are kayaking, but it is absolutely important to wear paricular clothing like wetsuit. It is because the wetsuit won’t weigh you down if you are falling into the water. And absolutely you won’t random pieces of your outfit getting caught on the kayak.

Kitesurfing Holidays Infomation

The gear alone will guarantee people will take one look at you and wonder what on earth you are doing. After that question gets answered they’ll launch into what does your gear do?

Hey it’s all pretty bizarre looking stuff when you first see it. The board alone looks like someone took the wheels off a skateboard, and the kite, well people think you’re going to fly that thing but don’t see quite how that is going to happen. Fun, it’s pure fun for all.

Kitesurf

Whether or not you want to get into kite boarding will be a strictly personal decision, but isn’t there this little spark of adventure simmering in the back of your mind that says “GO FOR IT?” Sure there is, and you know in your heart of hearts you will give it a good run for the money.

Kiteboarding Holidays

Kite boarding isn’t like water skiing, although it is similar in that what pulls you through the water is the brightly colored kite high above floating on the cross currents of a stiff wind. As you might imagine, getting a constant pull from the breeze is a bit like trying to herd cats.

Part of the great fun of kite boarding is learning how to adapt to the prevailing conditions. This means working on your kite boarding skills, and that will indeed take some practice. You see kite boarding and steering that kite is a bit like trying to steer a large bull into a pen. You’d best be quick and agile and have a good command of your hands and feet.

Kitesurfing School

There have been some monumental advances in kite technology since this sport got rolling, so dealing with changing wind speeds and getting a good grasp of the basics is even easier than it used to be. So, suit up me pretties and get ready for the time of your life.

Also just to paint the full picture here… from loving all types of sport including mountain biking and downhill involving crazy speeds jumping over logs and flying down mountain sides the fun and excitement was unrivaled by any other sport. That was until I go interested into Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Now, after all the fun I’ve had with these two incredibly addictive sports, Kiteboarding which involves fighting the waves and soaring into the air above waves on gorgeous beaches could very well become my third great sporting love… time will tell!

Kite Boarding Lessons

So, you want to take the bull by the horns do you and try your hand at kite boarding lessons? Bravo! You are about to have the time of your life. Now just pay attention and make sure you do right by the sport and get the proper equipment.

Island Kite Surfing

At one time getting lessons in kite boarding was rather like finding hen’s teeth. Right, you get the point, impossible. The sport of course was young and somewhat inelegant. It had rough edges and even rougher teachers who were kiting by the seat of their pants. Now however things are radically different. I mean, look at the proliferation of the kites, the competitions, the varied methods of kiting and the increased safety and better equipment.

Kiteboarding school

With all this change for the good happening you have to know that getting kite boarding lessons is going to be a lot easier now than ever before. And, to top that off, the instructors are going to be much more in tune with the latest developments in the sport. After all, many of them also participate in kite boarding.

As you may already know, kite boarding is a style of riding the waves dubbed freestyle or wake-style. Understand that the two different sports require different equipment and make sure you also know what the differences in styles are as well.

Make sure to take your lessons through a kite surfing/boarding center that offers courses in safety devices, lines, how to use the bar, landing, flying, launching and the kite itself. Do not skip any of these lessons, for the information they will teach you keeps you safe out on the water.

A beginner will learn to turn by man handling the kite up into what they dub the neutral postion, halting, actually sinking into the water backwards, then turning your kite in another direction and start all over again. Sounds like a handful doesn’t it? Oh it is, but it’s a lot of fun learning all the various moves, techniques and slang.

Kitesurfing holidays

For instance learn about the heel turn jibe. It’s faster and takes more skill and is virtually impossible to describe in writing. Hey, this is easier done than said and you’ll likely have at least one or more Hindenbergs (kite stalling and crashing) before you’re ready to try this on your own. Go for it!

Cruise Travel: Hints To Have Super Family Fun

Planning your next family vacation? Dreading spending ten hours in the car followed by five days dragging your kids to the beach, the hotel pool and a local restaurant that doesn’t offer a children’s menu?

If you’re looking for a vacation that will show both you and the kids a good time, cruising could be it.

To learn about the benefits and drawbacks of family cruise vacations, keep reading to find out the best tips for planning your first or next family cruise.

Why a Family Cruise Vacation?

Because so many cruise ships are targeted directly toward families, you’re getting a fully packaged vacation in a safe and contained environment.

There are daily, scheduled activities for the children along with parental getaways that both allow you to enjoy time with your children and also have your own private vacation.

Most cruise lines either offer “day camp” options with regularly scheduled, on-board activities or supervised day care facilities. Because your children are on a boat with you and under the care of a well-screened and professionally-supervised staff, you can rest a little easier.

Isn’t it Expensive?

Cruising can be expensive, but most family cruise destinations typically cost about $500-$1000 per person per week. Add up the cost of all the hotels, meals, souvenirs and mileage that your last vacation cost you and compare it to that figure. You’ll quickly see that a cruise vacation budgets in at about the same rate as a full, family vacation.

How do I a Book a “Family” Cruise?

Most cruise lines offer family-specific or family-friendly cruises that are geared specifically toward families with children. Ideally, you want to choose one of these rather than, say, a Senior’s cruise or a Single’s cruise.

Cruise lines like Disney or Norwegian also offer themed ships with full youth programs that are targeted to specific age groups from toddlers to teens. Again, this affords you the chance to take a break and enjoy the pool on your own.

When booking a full family cruise, you may want to consider a travel agent. Often, they’re able to discuss ship amenities, past client reviews and possible discounts.

However, if you’re searching alone and online, try reading past traveler reviews of each individual ship. This will provide you a clearer indication of the ship’s facilities and accommodations than the cruise line’s promotional website.

Things to Consider Before Departure

Make sure everyone in your family has their passport, travel health insurance and extra medication. Keep all of your documents in a safe and secure place with one person.

Experience Shark Cage Diving In South Africa

The concept of Shark Cage Diving may sound a little outlandish to many people. In addition to sounding peculiar to those of you that are unfamiliar with shark cage diving, it may also sound completely insane – climbing into a cage and being submerged into open sea, only to be greeted by Great White Sharks beneath the surface. The Great White Shark can only be described as a behemoth of the sea, and it has become one of the most feared creatures in light of ridiculous Hollywood movies that have been that portray these magnificent creatures as ‘man-eaters’ and ‘mutant’. The riskiest part about going shark cage diving is choosing the right tour operator. The shark cage diving industry in South Africa is strictly monitored with the interests of the sharks and marine life kept at the forefront. At Ultimate Animals, the crew has undergone professional training and only operates with all the required licenses and certified equipment. However, it is imperative to your safety and that of the marine eco-system that you consider the following before embarking on a shark cage diving expedition:
• How long has the Shark Cage Diving in South Africa charter been in business? You will find that the most trustworthy operators are well-established because they have been tour operating for more than five years.
• Research the prices of different shark cage diving tour operators. The majority of operators charge in the region of R1300 for a tour that lasts 4-5 hours. A competitive price normally suggests a competitive, safety-conscious tour operator that knows the industry.
• What are the terms and conditions concerning photography onboard? Does the tour operator use an in-house photographer/videographer? Is this service included in the price of the tour? If there is no in-house photographer/videographer onboard, does the operator sell disposable underwater cameras?
• Where is the shark cage diving tour operator located? Should an injury occur how close will we be to medical facilities? All tour operators in Cape Town are close to first-world medical facilities.
• What is the maximum amount of people allowed on the boat? You are guaranteed a better experience with fewer people onboard the boat. What other perks are included in the cost of the trip? Drinks and snacks and an educational lecture are some of the offerings you should be on the look out for.

Cruise Fuel Surcharge, Carnival Suspends

As of December 17, 2008, Carnival will no longer charge a cruise fuel surcharge. Previously, Carnival charged as much as $15 per day. They will now be refunding those fuel surcharges through a ship board credit after the 17th.

In a statement on Thursday December 3rd, Carnival’s director of marketing, Bill Harber, said oil prices have dropped low enough for the company to lift the surcharges. “As the price of oil has dropped to $46 per barrel, it has now reached a level where we are able to suspend the fuel supplement,” Harber said.

They warned that if fuel prices rise again, they may start charging the fee again.

I believe this action will end up becoming beneficial for Carnival and should lead to a small increase in bookings. Many cruisers were quite upset when the cruise companies began placing fuel surcharges.

Starting in 2010, Royal Caribbean’s fuel surcharge of ten dollars a day will be dropped. They also said that each quarter in 2009, they will examine the fuel conditions to determine whether to refund the charge.

I believe the removal of the cruise fuel surcharge that Carnival once had will eventually cause Royal Caribbean to follow as well and drop the charges too. I’d expect to see them make a move in the near future.

Lets all hope that oil prices stay down and we never see a cruise fuel surcharge ever again
